A morning news producer (Katherine Heigl) is forced to hire a relationship “expert” (Gerard Butler) to do crude, bombastic segments to boost ratings and save the show. She detests his cynical observations but finds that his advice starts to pay off when she uses it to develop a relationship with a handsome doctor.
The ClearPlay Factor
The R-rated The Ugly Truth is benefited from being ClearPlayed by losing about 150 instances of language, much of it sexually oriented. Several risqué scenes are also cut, including some with nudity, implied nudity, and a foray with bikini-clad wrestlers in a pool of Jell-O. For starters. Also, because of a scene of lovemaking and a song with suggestive lyrics being excised, the movie ends rather abruptly.
Will the Truth set me free?…
ClearPlayed, The Ugly Truth is an amiable if familiar romantic comedy about the differences between men and women and the idea that opposites attract. There is enough innuendo remaining to make it inappropriate for kids or younger teens, but it does have a positive message that we should try to be true to ourselves.
