Patrick Sullivan is about to get married when his fiancé calls Dr. Emma Lloyd, a popular relationship guru, who counsels her to call it off. Unhappy with the meddling Doctor, Patrick takes his revenge by having a hacker break into the vital statistics bureau and create a record that states that he and Dr. Lloyd are married. This fouls up Dr. Lloyd’s marriage plans, forcing her to work with Patrick to get the fake marriage annulled. Guess what happens.
The ClearPlay Factor
ClearPlaying the film removes several instances of sexual dialog, immodesty, and a sexual scene. Also ClearPlayed are an "F" word and a few "S" words and religious exclamations. Even with ClearPlay, parents may want to screen the movie to gauge its appropriateness.
Should I Accidentally Miss This One?…
This is a textbook example of talented actors (Colin Firth, Uma Thurman, Jeffrey Dean Morgan) being thrown into a mediocre movie. They sure try their best, but the uninspired, predictable story and weak dialogue just leave them nowhere to go. There are a few laughs to be had, mainly thanks to Jeffrey Dean Morgan, but the rest falls flat. The most affecting scene is the very last one, but the journey to get there will only be worth it to die-hard romcom fans.
