Based on a novel by Dan Brown, Angels & Demons picks up after the events of the The DaVinci Code, following symbologist hero Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) as he tackles another arcane mystery. This time, a group of Catholic cardinals is abducted by a mysterious group called the Illuminati who promises to execute the cardinals one at a time in revenge for past abuses by the Church. Dr. Langdon shifts his high powered brain into overdrive as he dashes around Rome unraveling a dark plot that threatens to kill thousands.
The ClearPlay Factor
This is a violent film. With ClearPlay on full, expect jumps as some fairly disturbing assassination bits are skipped. A couple of religious exclamations and several other obscenities are also removed. This is a film for mature audiences.
Will this Movie Bedevil Me?…
If the horror-detective film Seven and the puzzle solving flick National Treasure had a baby, Angels & Demons would be the result. It has twists, turns, betrayals, and action, making for a frantic ride. As with all historical fiction, take the "facts" of the story with a healthy dose of skepticism (hint: the relationship between the Catholic church and the Illuminati is complete fiction). Some viewers may be put off by a fairly strong anti-religious bias in the film, but if you’re looking for a movie with intrigue, intelligent heroes, and a visceral edge, Angels & Demons will fit the bill.
