One day an alien spaceship parks itself over Johannesburg, South Africa and just hangs there. The earthlings take the initiative and go inside, finding an alien race they name "the Prawns" huddled in the dark. The Prawns are relocated to earth where they become slum-dwelling nuisances. When the humans try to forcefully evict them to a new "camp," disaster occurs and one human learns there may be more to the Prawns than anyone realizes.
The ClearPlay Factor
District 9 is a potty-mouthed gore fest. While the ClearPlayed movie will be understandable, editing out nearly 100 "F" words and other profanity, sexual dialogue, and the grosser parts of the violence will cause a fair number of skips, mutes, and jumps. Certainly not a show for the kiddos.
Should I Visit District 9?…
District 9 is an odd mishmash of a movie, though that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s part faux documentary, part comedy, part action movie, and part political commentary. Beneath all the violent bluster of the film is a good story about learning to value lives (radically) different from your own, though it is told in a very offbeat way. While the film would have been more effective for me if they had toned down the language and gore, it’s still worth checking out if you’re looking for sci-fi flick a little off the beaten path.
