The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio
As a stay at home mother to 10 kids, Evelyn Ryan (Julianne Moore) had her hands full. To fill the financial gaps she started entering contests and with her creative writing style she started to win. This is based on a true story that was written by Evelyn’s daughter depicting her mother’s amazing power to endure.
ClearPlay in Action!
Kelly Ryan (Woody Harrelson), Evelyn’s husband is lucky he married an EXTREMELY patient and positive woman. Kelly struggles with alcohol abuse, misuse of family finances and at times mistreatment of his wife but Evelyn being the perfect 1950s wife supports him through it all. With medium filters two scenes of abuse are witnessed and the couple’s children are in the room, one includes injuries to Evelyn. Mild language that was used was mostly during moments of anger but is filtered. Fit for tweens and up.
Is Prize Winner a finalist or a runner-up?...
Nowadays Evelyn would have ditched her husband, who obviously seemed to drag her down at some points, but that wasn’t an option for her. She had nothing to her name since houses, cars and worldly possessions were put in the man’s name. Moore’s portrayal of her was beautiful and passionate. There are some awkward and maybe underdeveloped parts but if you are not moved in some way by this story I would be surprised.
