The Legend of Bagger Vance
Golf. To some it’s thought of as a religion, a way of life. Rannulph Junuh (Matt Damon) is one of these people, at least he was until he went to war only to return and find his famous winning “swing” missing in action. An invitation to play against two of the world’s finest golfers, and a mystical man named Bagger Vance (Will smith) may be his last hope to finding his swing, and to finding the meaning of life.
ClearPlay in Action!
Your ClearPlayer has a couple of big jobs in The Legend of Bagger Vance. With your filters set to medium, filters will edit out several profanities including numerous blasphemous expletives. You’ll also be spared a scene with Adele in her bra and underwear, which you don’t even know has happened except for the fact that one of the characters is spying on them and tells his friends all about it. In a different scene you will see Adele and Junuh kissing in bed and she is wearing a dress that looks more like a negligee. As for the violence factor, when Junuh goes to war you do see a couple of soldiers being shot but they don’t show a lot of blood and gore. Lastly, Adele’s father commits suicide, you don’t see it but you hear a gun shot and the next scene shows his hand with a smoking gun next to it. With your filters set to medium or most, The Legend of Bagger Vance would be suitable for ages 14+.
Will Bagger Vance be a Legend in Your Home?
Every once in a while a movie comes along that has a meaning, within a meaning. A movie that makes you really think and reflect on life. This is ONE of those movies. I watched this movie when it was first released and thought it was just a great movie about golf. But after watching it this time, some thirteen years later, I caught an entirely new and wonderful underlying story about the meaning of life. And a moral story that touches every soul that tunes into this “Legend” of a movie. There are a lot of religious undertones that were perfectly appropriate and not at all cheesy. Will Smith and Matt Damon are an unexpected pair but they wove this tail together in perfect unison! If you want a movie with a suspenseful golf game, and a story about a war veteran looking for the true meaning of life, look no further!
