Liar Liar
Fletcher Reede (Jim Carrey) is a quick talking lawyer with the ability to “manipulate the truth”. His ease in lying is pushing him up the corporate ladder while at home it is hurting his relationships with the people he cares about. Fletcher’s son is enamored by him but often falls victim to his workaholic schedule and lack of follow through; so for his birthday he wishes for his Dad to not be able to lie for 24 hours. Fletcher finds himself in unknown territory when he can’t fall back on his savvy skills.
ClearPlay in Action!
Let the filtering begin since ClearPlay takes out roughly 30 instances of language and blasphemy with settings at Most Filtering! A couple of sexual scenes are also nicely cut out for you. Jennifer Tilley, who hires Jim Carrey’s character to defend her in a case, wears short skirts and VERY low cut shirts that leave little to the imagination. The main scenes to be leery of are filtered but some flirtatious conversations and an implied sexual encounter with a couple in bed are not. Fletcher, in a desperate attempt to delay court, schemes to appear beaten up before the judge by assaulting himself (done in true Carrey style with comedy as the main goal). I would stick to teens and up for this comedy.
Will your pants be on fire after watching Liar Liar?...
Jim Carrey is his usual over the top self but not too over the top as the unwillingly honest Fletcher Reede. Some would say Carrey is an acquired taste, with his obnoxious antics, but I find him pretty funny most of the time and he was in this. He’s fallen into a bit of a cookie cutter mold where his characters are all kind of the same though. Is this comedy genius?.....No, but silly fun nonetheless. My favorite Carrey movie is Dumb and Dumber, yes it does live up to its title but give it a chance, it totally cracks me up.
