Mission: Impossible II
In a plot reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock’s Notorious, Impossible Mission’s expert spy, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), must send his new girlfriend (Thandie Newton) to hook up with her old boyfriend (Dougray Scott), who has allegedly stolen a deadly disease that could threaten all mankind. With someone on the inside and Hunt on the outside, it seems the world is in good hands. We just have to hope the intelligence is reliable and nothing goes wrong.
ClearPlay In Action!
There are scenes implying an intimate relationship that are trimmed; some profanity is also edited. But as with other movies in the MI franchise, it’s the action violence that captures ClearPlay’s attention. Though egregious scenes and violent images are cut, there is still the implication of heartless violence, torture and cruelty, and the movie is best suited for teens used to suspense thrillers.
Does MI 2 self-destruct in five seconds?...
In this Mission: Impossible reboot, there are two heavy hitters along for the ride: Screenplay Superstar Robert Towne (Chinatown), and Chinese action prodigy, director John Woo (Hard Boiled). Though this second installment in the series is a good, solid action film, it doesn’t quite reach the heights of the other movies. Nevertheless, it makes for a pretty good night at the movies.
