    A Mother Searching For Herself!

Moms, have you thought about what you'll want to do for yourselves on Mother's Day? Might I suggest hunkering down in sweats, a bowl of Ben and Jerry’s ice-cream, and watching a good chic flic? I went to the video store in search of such a movie, and came across a film with the title, The Women, perfect!

Mary Haines is the wife to an affluent businessman, mother to a teenage girl, daughter to a somewhat bitter mother, and best friends with a high rolling magazine editor. Her life, and plate, is full, and she wonders how things could possibly get better. Then the ball drops when Mary finds out that her husband is cheating on her! She suddenly realizes that nothing in her life is as it seems and she leans on her Mother to coach her along in a life lesson on priorities. Mary must put her daughter first and decide what she really wants to do with her new life. But is it too big of a challenge for her? With the help of her mother and friends, Mary may just survive and learn who she is at the same time.

What can I say; I can’t get enough of a movie about self-discovery in the midst of the chaotic roles of being mom, wife, daughter, and friend. I also love watching some of Hollywood’s greats such as Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Debra Messing, Candice Bergen, Bette Midler, Carrie Fisher, Cloris Leachman. I think I just named eight reasons alone to go see this film. But also I loved the relationship between Mary and her mother, she says to her mother at one point, “I hope that one day my daughter can love me as much as I love you right now..” Ahhhh, need I say more? It’s a perfect Mother’s Day film to encourage us as mother’s to not forget who we are and what WE enjoy, no matter how much our kids/husbands/friends demand our attention.

Motherly Advice: I watched The Women with my filters on MOST, and I think everyone should do the same. It’s not that the film has any sex or nudity but it does have language. Mary and her spa get-a-way pal Leah smoke pot. Lastly, there one scene where Mary and the “adulterer” are in a lingerie store, and you see both in some pretty skimpy pieces. Those are the “biggies” but this film deals in divorce and infidelity so I would only recommend it to ages 14+. And all mothers, of courses!

Trisha - Mother of two, wife of an amazing husband, and I’m ready for a day to celebrate….me!

Rated PG-13 for sex-related material, language, some drug use and brief smoking; 114 min; Directed by Diane English
