  • Family Movie Night Activity: Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

“What is this place?” “San Diego. This time I’m 40% sure.”

The popular characters of Madagascar are back and trying to find their way home to New York. When their plane crash lands in Africa, everyone is excited to be part of a new herd… but they quickly find out that even when you’re in the perfect place, there are problems to be solved. Grab your family and any other Madagascar fans and watch as Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman work out herd life, even when it’s the hard life!

    Movie Snacks:

*When Alex and his friends are about to leave, King Julien jumps out of a “Bon voyage cake”. Make a farewell cake for your family to decorate and eat, while you watch these animals try to make their way back to New York.
*King Julien is always carrying a drink with an umbrella straw in it. Whether you’re drinking water, milk, your favorite juice or a fancy smoothie be sure to use a little umbrella straw and you’ll be set.
*When the penguins take over the tour bus, the feisty, little old nana offers everyone some hard candy from her purse. Have some hard candy for your movie fans to snack on while they watch the show and they’re sure to be able to survive the wild Movie Night you have planned.
*When New Yorker’s are hungry they find a hot dog stand. Your family can find one for Movie Night as well! Have hot dogs, buns and all sorts of different toppings set out so that each person can order up the perfect hot dog for dinner.

    Must Pause Moments:

*When the penguins do their flight check to see if their plane will take off, be sure to do your own Movie Night flight check. Point out the different things you have prepared for Movie Night (snacks, activities, pillows, blankets, even the TV and ClearPlay can be on the list) and have your family check them off as you read them from the list. Once you’re sure everything is there and ready, continue with the movie and Movie Night!
*Moto Moto says that his name is “so nice, you say it twice” so why not start calling everyone their name twice. You can go the extra mile by pausing the movie and looking up new names. Choose an adjective that describes each person, look it up in another language, and then say it twice. Remember to call everyone by their Moto Moto names for the rest of the evening.
*Melman tells Moto Moto that he should treat Gloria like a queen because of all the great things about her. Stop the movie long enough for each person to go around the room and say something nice about each person; you could mention positive character traits or things that they are good at.

    Other Activities:

*The penguins pieced together an airplane and then they crash land it in Africa. Make your own paper airplanes with “spit, grit, and duct tape” or with paper and colored pencils. You and your family can make a whole “Air Penguin” fleet of paper airplanes.
*Have a “Dance Off” during each song throughout the movie. Award someone a crown that they can wear between songs. When a new song starts have everyone get up and dance to see who will wear the crown next.
*This movie is the 2nd of 3 movies. If you’ll be watching either of the other movies, be sure to look up the Family Movie Night Activities that go along with them so you can get the most out of each installment.

*LyndiLou* Movie Mom aka Furaha Furaha

Rated PG for some mild crude humor; 89 min; Directed by Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath
