Star Trek
Every young boy thinks his father is a hero. James Kirk (Chris Pine) is no different; except that his father died the day James was born while on a rescue mission in space. 20 years later and James finds himself faced with the decision to continue on in his rebellious ways, or join the ranks of Captain Pike (Bruce Greenwood) and serve his country fighting foreign star ships and bringing peace to the universe. He chooses to follow his father’s footsteps and joins the U.S.S. Enterprise, becoming the hero that he was always meant to be.
ClearPlay in Action!
Star Trek is a film that boasts a family friendly movie-watching experience, but there are a few parts to watch out for. With your filters set on medium, the costumes are decent except a couple of short skirts adorned by Zoe Saldana’s character, as well as one scene where she is undressing and we see her in her bra and underwear. We also see a brief make out scene where two characters are also in their skivvy’s and in bed, but that’s as far as the two go. Violence is the next component to watch out for, there are several fighting scenes that get a bit violent, and one really intense scene that includes alien gigantic scorpion predators chasing after James Kirk. One really disturbing scene includes a man being tortured and you see a scorpion being dropped down his throat. Eeek!! Your ears won’t burn from profanity because Clearplay filters them out. With medium filters, I’d recommend this blockbuster film for ages 14+
Will watching Star Trek make you Live Long and Prosper?...
With the recent release of Star Trek, Into Darkness, my husband and I wanted to rent the first Star Trek so that everything was fresh in our memories when we hit the theatre to watch the new one. Am I glad I did this? Yes. Yes. Yes. Star Trek is one of those films that, unless you grew up watching, the adventures tend to allude you. Chris Pike and Zachary Quinto are my favorite duo; they are the perfect Kirk and Spock! The adventure of Star Trek will not leave you disappointed, and will only rev up your engine to run, not walk, to the theatre to catch the next Star Trek, Into Darkness.

Star Trek
In this prequel to the original TV series, time-traveling Romulans attempt to fulfill a vendetta by destroying the Federation, starting with Vulcan. Meanwhile, we learn the genesis of Kirk, Spock, Uhura and the rest of those who would become the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise.
The ClearPlay Factor
The theatrical version of Star Trek was rated PG-13 for “sci-fi action and violence, and brief sexuality.” ClearPlayed, the movie loses about 20 moments of profanity, some graphic violence with swordplay and fist fighting, unnecessary innuendo of James T. Kirk carousing, and women in underwear, but loses none of its rollicking impact. The ClearPlayed version has implied violence, including the destruction of a planet, but none of the bloody aftermath. There are some scary monsters and plenty of tension, so young children should probably still steer clear.
Is it a Trek worth taking?…
Those who’ve resisted the voyages of the Starship Enterprise should know that resistance is futile. Make no “Bones” about it, this prequel is for more than just Trekkers; it’s a fun, action-packed story that should entertain everyone. Good characterizations, heroic acts, and plenty of swagger help it boldly go where the franchise hadn’t gone before: to crossover audiences.
