  • Tweens & Teens Movie Night Activity: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

“No survivors? Then where do all the stories come from, I wonder?”

When a group of un-dead pirates find that Elizabeth Swan has the last piece of gold they need to break the curse, they take the gold and her right along with it. Will Turner decides to save the woman he loves so he enlists the help of the infamous and eccentric pirate, Jack Sparrow. Find out who ends up needing to be rescued and who comes to the rescue… it might not be who you think it is. Gather your favorite group of buccaneers to watch this tale of the high seas and you aRRRRRRRe sure to have a grand time!

    Wear While Watching:

*The most memorable outfit is that of Captain Jack Sparrow. Do your best to copy his crazy costume, mix and match your own pirate get-up or just wear your best skull & crossbones clothes and accessories.
*If you aren’t convinced that a pirate’s life is for you, you can take some tips from the soldiers of Port Royal and dress in blue or red. You could even turn this into a surprise competition by telling your guests to choose soldiers or pirates and see which group gets the most members to attend movie night.

    Home Theater Décor:

*Decorate your home in classic pirate colors: Red, black, and white. Be sure to throw in skull & crossbones and fly your Jolly Roger flag if you’ve got one. You could even copy different locations from the movie by having different parts of your home be Port Royal, Tortuga, and The Isle de Meurta.
*Decorate your home with all sorts of pirate treasure. Use strings of pearls and beads, gold coins, gems, crowns and tiaras, and any other valuables (real or fake) you can think of. Just be sure that when your guests arrive, they think they’ve found a cavern full of pirate booty!

    Movie Munchies:

*Mix up your best Pirate Punch or ginger ale to drink during the movie. Before you take a sip be sure to toast one another with the sentiment Jack and Mr. Dibbs say: “Take what you can!” and “Give nothing back!”
*Captain Barbossa has quite a spread laid out for Elizabeth. Serve a dinner of similar food, or just have things out banquet style. Be sure to have pork, bread, rolls, potatoes, vegetables, cake, and apples.
*In this movie, the pirates are looking for the last piece of Aztec gold. Have some chocolate gold coins for you and your guests to enjoy while Captain Barbossa and his crew do their best to find the gold they’re looking for.

    Movie Inspired Adventures:

*At the beginning of the movie, young Elizabeth is singing “A Pirate’s Life For Me”. You could print up the lyrics and have them on a poster-board as part of the decorations or hand them out to each guest on bookmark sized paper so you could all sing together. Knowing the song will help it to be more fun to watch the movie a second time, because you’ll realize how many song lines they use in the movie.
*You don’t have to wait until “Talk Like A Pirate Day” to talk like Jack Sparrow. You can have your own “Talk Like A Pirate” movie night where everyone uses all their best buccaneer lingo, or just keep it simple by using words like “savvy” as often as possible.
*Create your own treasure map or special compass to lead you on a treasure hunt of your own. You could keep it simple and have everyone looking around your house and yard or you could go all out by having clues lead all around town. You could have everyone looking for one particular item, make it a scavenger hunt where they have multiple things to gather or even have a photo hunt where each team has a camera and has to take pictures of certain things or places.

*LyndiLou* - That’s CAPTAIN LyndiLou, to you!

Rated PG-13 for action/adventure violence; 143 min; Directed by Gore Verbinski
