"Zoikes Scooby Like, It’s Actually A Good Movie!!"

If Mystery Inc. is on the case you know you are in for mystery, intrigue, pictures with eyes that move, and of course, Scooby snacks! The gang is at the height of their career until differences in opinion take place and they all go their separate ways. Fast-forward two years when Fred (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Daphne(Sarah Michelle Gellar), Velma(Linda Cardellini), Shaggy(Matthew Lillard), and Scooby are each individually invited to the newly popularized resort, Spooky Island. Strange things are going on and it’s up to Mystery Inc. to put their differences aside and solve the case, or else . . .

This 2002 Scooby-Doo film is fun family entertainment to the very core. But know that it is definitely geared toward a younger audience. The acting is not anything that would be award winning but each character plays their part with incredible animation so younger kids are hooked from the beginning. As an added bonus, the storyline is a good one so the older teens and parents will also enjoy the movie. I would only nix one part of the movie, the farting/burping contest between Shaggy and Scooby, it was disgusting but I’m sure the pre-teens will find it hilarious! Perfect for a fun Halloween family movie night, Scooby-Doo will scare you without any blood or gore. Just old fashioned “jumpy” parts that will have you running for the hills yelling, “Scooby-Dooby-Doooooo”!!

Motherly Advice: I watched Scooby-Doo with my filters set on low and I’m not sure what was filtered. This film is squeaky clean with zero expletives, zero sex scenes, and a few very mild fighting scenes, (i.e., Shaggy punches one of the “bad guys” accidentally). I will say that for half of the movie, Daphne sports a pretty low-cut/very short dress. And some of the “island extras” are wearing bikinis. The biggest thing to be aware of for ages 9 and under are the scary/jumpy parts. For example, the teens on the island are taken over and brain washed and then turn into creepy CGI characters, Yikes! Accumulatively though, I’d say Scooby-Doo is a fun family film appropriate for ages 10 and up.
