  • Underworld: Awakening

This is the other vampire and werewolf (lycan) franchise that makes Twilight look like Valentines Day at the butterfly pavilion. In this fourth installment of the series, the humans have nearly eradicated the vampires and werewolves, but small groups of the superhuman creatures still exist. When scientists create a girl who is a hybrid of the two, vampires and lycans wage a bloody war to control her.

    ClearPlay In Action!

There is some swearing to be ClearPlayed, but why waste a short 88 minute running time on meaningful dialogue? Underworld: Awakening is all about moving characters into position to get them slaughtered. If you have violence, disturbing, or bloodshed filters on at all, you will miss significant chunks of this film because it takes no half measures on the violence. It’s all pretty graphic and some of it perpetrated by a young girl. If you’re going to filter violence, this movie isn’t worth your time.

    Is UnderWorld an Awakening Experience?…

Let’s see how many of these I can do. This movie was a pain in the neck. It felt dead. The tone was pretty grave. The characters seemed soulless. This movie should have never seen the light of day. The plot didn’t have any bite to it. When it was over, I felt drained. The dialog didn’t have me howling at the moon. Okay, enough of that. Yeah. Unless you really like thin plots in service of ultra gore, try something else for your vampire needs.

    Brian Fuller — ClearPlay Hybrid

Rated R for strong violence and gore, and for some language; 88 min; Directed by Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein
