Trouble with the Curve
Aging grizzled baseball scout Gus (Clint Eastwood) is losing his eyesight, so his high’powered attorney daughter (Amy Adams) accompanies him on the most important scouting trip of the year. They evaluate talent while trying to repair the roots of their strained relationship. Rival scout Johnny (Justin Timberlake), a washed–up player Gus once recruited, provides light–hearted moments and a love interest.
ClearPlay In Action!
Trouble with the Curve received its PG–13 rating for “language, sexual references, some thematic material and smoking.” The ClearPlayed version cuts about 80 profanities and religious exclamations, as well as insensitive allusions to intercourse. Also trimmed is a scene of urination, and one alluding to an intimate relationship between characters. Kids may find the pace too slow, but the movie argues for family communication and old school ideals.
Does Trouble hit a home run, or strike out?…
The movie’s plot acts like it’s deeper than it is. It’s a nice, quiet movie that most audiences will like, but I found it tired and predictable. I’ll give it a base hit, maybe a ground–rule double, on the lone strength of its watchable stars.
