Frankenweenie

Victor, a brilliant but socially outcast boy (voiced by Charlie Tahan), loses his best friend, his dog Sparky. Inspired by a school lesson, the boy gets an idea to use electricity to reanimate the dog. Although his efforts are successful, his experiments soon run out of control, and Victor finds he has to save the day in a similar fashion to the cheesy movies he likes to make.

ClearPlay In Action!

Most of ClearPlay’s work comes in trimming some scatological or gruesome humor elements, such as a cat that poops the initials of people’s names when something big is about to happen to them. Also cut are about five instances of language. The dark nature of Frankenweenie may make it a bit too macabre for younger viewers, as it deals with death … and monsters.

Is Frankenweenie a hot dog of a movie?...

For some, the movies of Tim Burton are an acquired taste, but Frankenweenie, based on Tim Burton’s first short film, ranks among his best. Presented in black and white to mirror the classic 1930s monster movies, Frankenweenie is layered with visual treats that pay homage to those early monsters, as well as to Burton himself, with references to Batman, Edward Scissorhands, and Mars Attacks, among others. Inventive, well-paced, and witty, Frankenweenie should appeal to a wide spectrum of mature viewers.
