  • The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2

The finale of the Twilight series ends here! This last movie wraps up all the drama with the Volturi, the drama with the truly freaky vampire baby and everything else Bella, Edward and Jacob have been arguing about.

    ClearPlay in Action!

ClearPlay filters do their work here eliminating a small handful of mild expletives, a sex scene and lots of head detachments. With Medium filters the sex scene is completely eliminated as well as any kissing but for nudity you will see Jacob undress himself down to his undies. For violence with Medium filters, you’ll see vampires and werewolves fighting but not really witness any deaths. Motherly Advice: With Medium filters this Twilight finale would be ok for your teens 14 and up, but no matter how you feel about the filtering of kissing don’t be tempted to lower your sex filters to Least because you’ll catch an eye-full of more than just kissing.

Will The Twilight of This Series Leave You Waiting for Dawn?...

No matter what your level of Twilight fanship is, you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised with this one. It starts up really slow but ends with a bigger bang than the lackluster book did. Twi-hards will be stunned and excited. Twi-haters will enjoy some action and be thrilled when the whole thing is over. The rest of us will enjoy making fun of baby Renesme (don’t you hate that stage when your baby looks like an animated robot doll?), smiling at the newly-weds happy ending and tensing up with some excellent fight sequences.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2

Bella is now a vampire. Yay! And she is a vampire mother with a creepy little CGI baby (they couldn’t find a real one?) awkwardly named Renesmee. Renesmee isn’t quite human and isn’t quite vampire. She attracts the attention of the evil Volturi, a group of vaudevillian Italian vampires who are ancient and hate anything Renesmee-ish. The Volturi set forth to kill Renesmee and all the main characters of Twilight and unfortunately (spoiler ahead) fail.

    ClearPlay In Action!

Yes, ClearPlay must chop out a scene of Edward and Bella in bed (again) as well as some sensual talk. There are only about five profanity issues. The main problem in this installment of Twilight is violence, head removal in particular. One kills vampires by twisting or pulling off their heads and then setting them on fire. At the end of the movie in particular heads and headless bodies are dropping like rain, and a number of cuts will leave you wondering who was decapitated.

Is Breaking Dawn Part 2 a Head Popping Adventure?...

Okay, I’m a known Twilight hater, but believe it or not, I can say one good thing about this movie: there seemed to be about 50% less mumbled and awkward lines! I think this reflects Bella’s new confidence now that she is who she was meant to be: a freezing cold bloodthirsty vampire. If you’ll indulge me, here are some highlights from the film.

    1. Michael Sheen as Aro the evil Volturi Lord gave a memorably bizarre performance. I couldn’t help thinking that all he really needed was a big stick of pink cotton candy and he would find his happy place.

    2. For a franchise that has made bazillions of dollars, they really couldn’t afford better CGI? Renesmee the baby, the werewolves, and running lightspeed through the forests seemed like they were done by unpaid interns.

    3. Yes, ladies, they did find an excuse for Jacob to take off his stupid shirt (and pants!) in one of the most eye-rolling awkward scenes in the film. Ugh.

    4. The two tribal vampire ladies from the Amazon were so desperately out of place I laughed every time they were on screen. One of them wins the Most Creepy Vampire award, however.

    5. Also humorous: when vampire Bella hugs Edward for the first time, the director wants to convey how strong she is. So when she grabs him they insert a sound effect that sounds like someone dropped a six foot tall bookshelf in the background.

    6. Really? After four movies they still couldn’t find a personality for poor Edward?

Oh, I could go on, but I am in my cotton candy happy place, too. This is the last Twilight Movie (until Stephanie Meyer blows all her money and writes a sequel). But for now, hooray!
