The Guilt Trip
Andrew Brewster wants to launch a new business by embarking on a long road trip to pitch his revolutionary household cleaner to companies across the United States. In an act of compassion, he invites his widowed, nagging mother along for the ride. It doesn’t take long to realize that the real baggage for this trip isn’t in the back of the car. The troubled journey provides many opportunities for teeth grinding patience, heated arguments, and mother and son bonding.
ClearPlay In Action!
ClearPlay does a good job cleaning up The Guilt Trip, removing a scene where they accidentally enter a topless bar and cleaning up some other sexual references. An F word, several S words, and a handful of other swear words are muted. These items aren’t missed and don’t impact the story. With ClearPlay, the film would work for older teens and up, though thematically it is aimed at adults.
Should I Pack My Bags for a Guilt Trip?…
The Guilt Trip stars Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand, who do really well with the source material they’ve been given. Seth’s dry delivery and Barbra’s spot–on portrayal of an obsessed mother nearly save a mediocre script and a fairly run of the mill plot. There is a nice little twist at the end, however, and while there aren’t as many laughs as there should be, it’s good enough to watch once. Mothers with grown, neglectful sons will probably enjoy it the most.
