Peeples
Wade Walker (Craig Robinson) wants to propose to his girlfriend, and thinks the perfect time to do it would be at a family getaway he’s not invited to. Once there, he finds out why he’s not invited: His girlfriend (Kerry Washington) has kept his existence secret from her well-to-do family, in particular her intolerant father, Virgil Peeples (David Alan Grier). Wade must somehow win them over, in spite of bad luck and the usual misunderstandings.
ClearPlay In Action!
Peeples has its share of rude humor involving skinny dipping, a gay relationship played for laughs, risqué role-playing, and breast implants. ClearPlay trims these scenes and about 50 instances of profanity and lewd references. The edited version is fine for most audiences, as long as they don’t particularly have a desire for quality.
Peeples are funny, right?...
Uhh, wrong. Peeples borrows from the funny Meet the Parents and the not-so-funny Guess Who, and gives off the overwhelming feeling of been-there, done-that. There are a couple of nice bits, but as much as I like the individual cast members, they’re all wrong here, and there aren’t many honest moments in the film. Though the movie avoids offensive stereotypes that often invade Tyler Perry comedies, its sweetness and good intentions only carry it so far.
