Captain Phillips
In 2009, Captain Phillips and his crew were taken hostage by Somali pirates who boarded their merchant ship in international waters. Directed by Paul Greengrass of Bourne fame, Captain Phillips retells the harrowing events of the ordeal, including the pirates taking Captain Phillips hostage on a lifeboat and the final endgame with the U.S. Navy.
ClearPlay In Action!
ClearPlay mutes around 16 instances of language and religious exclamations. There is no sex or nudity in the film. There are a handful of disturbing images, including one skipped at the end which is critical to the story (those familiar with this event can guess what it is), though it’s pretty apparent what happened. ClearPlayed, Captain Phillips is appropriate for teens and up.
Should I Sail With Captain Phillips?...
This is the best movie I’ve seen in quite some time despite the fact that I knew how it was going to end. We hear about pirate attacks on the news, and this film gives a unique view into terror on the high seas. Tom Hanks nails his role as Captain Phillips, and with Paul Greengrass at the controls, you are in good hands. Captain Phillips is tense, thought provoking, and well worth your time.
