Dallas Buyers Club
Based on a true story, Dallas Buyers Club centers around Ron Woodruff (Matthew McConaughey), a Texas hustler and homophobe who contracts HIV and is given 30 days to live. He throws himself into studying the AIDS virus and its emerging treatments, seeking loopholes in a system that seemed to be stacked against getting care for patients. Forming the “Dallas Buyers Club,” Woodruff obtains drugs from other countries to supply AIDS patients in the U.S.
ClearPlay In Action!
Profanity is prolific in Dallas Buyers Club, and ClearPlay edits about 240 instances, with nearly half being the F-word. Also cut are several scenes of nudity, implied intercourse, and some disturbing images of illness. The movie’s themes include homosexuality, cross-dressing, and drug abuse, and even the ClearPlayed version should be reserved for mature audiences.
As a ClearPlay user, should I buy what this Club is selling?...
In addition to two knockout performances (McConaughey and Jared Leto), Dallas Buyers Club has at its core a man fighting a broken system, standing up for his beliefs, overcoming prejudice, and facing impossible odds. It’s a life-affirming period piece that covers an important portion of history, and has Oscar nominations to supply its street cred.
