The Best Man Holiday
If you haven’t seen 1999’s The Best Man, the first several minutes of The Best Man Holiday may be a bit confusing. Holiday does its best to get you up to speed on the characters from 15 years ago, what conflicts they have in their relationships, and what they’ve been up to since. In The Best Man Holiday, these former college friends (Taye Diggs, Monica Calhoun, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard and others) get together for the Christmas season and sparks fly.
ClearPlay In Action!
A lot of the conflict of Best Man Holiday deals with who slept with whom, as well as some embarrassing revelations dealing with past indiscretions. ClearPlay edits a scene of brief nudity, scenes of implied intercourse and oral sex, and about 120 instances of language. Without giving too much away, it also deals with sickness, and the seriousness of the dramatic moments probably make the ClearPlayed version most appropriate for mature audiences.
Is this Holiday a great gift, or coal in the stocking?...
The Best Man Holiday vacillates between crude romp, heartfelt drama, and familiar melodrama. The strength of the cast, however, brings it all together in a better than average ensemble piece. While the movie is somewhat uneven, the best parts are worth the rental.
