  • The Legend of Hercules

Hercules doesn’t know his true identity as the son of Zeus. His mortal step-father, a tyrannical king, suspects that Hercules isn’t his son and sends him off to a battle where he knows he’ll be killed. But Hercules survives and fights as a gladiator until he wins his freedom. To defeat his father and to lay his claim to the woman he loves, Hercules will have to embrace his divine parentage and lead a rebellion.

    ClearPlay In Action!

Hercules is light on the bad language, with just a few instances that need muted. A couple of scenes of sensuality are trimmed up, as well. As you might expect, it is violence that is ClearPlay’s primary work here, and the impalings and beatings will cause some jumping around. With filters, the movie would be appropriate for teens and up.

Should I Join Hercules in the Arena?...

If the films Gladiator and 300 had a baby and then dropped it on its head, you would get The Legend of Hercules. There’s lots of stylized action with beefy guys running around doing manly fighting things with swords and spears and such. The drama, dialog, and special effects get clunky enough to be distracting from time to time, turning this sword and sandals epic into a forgettable “meh” of a film. Still, if you have a yearning for muscly guys, melee combat, and a world with a dash of mythology, you might give The Legend of Hercules a spin. Or watch Gladiator again.

Brian Fuller - ClearPlay Gladiator who is not jealous of Hercules’s massive pectorals.

Rated PG-13 for sequences of intense combat action and violence, and for some sensuality; 99 min; Directed by Renny Harlin
