The Monuments Men
It’s 1944. World War II is winding down, the Nazis are on the run, and a small group of American specialists (George Clooney, Matt Damon, John Goodman, Bill Murray, and others) are tasked with finding and salvaging priceless art that the Nazis are hiding or destroying. Working in pairs, the group follows various leads as the preservation of culture, history and man’s accomplishments becomes more and more remote.
ClearPlay In Action!
There is some minor innuendo and nude paintings/statuary in The Monuments Men, but ClearPlay’s main work comes in trimming war violence and language. The ClearPlayed version of the movie is appropriate for most audiences.
Are these Men a monument to good filmmaking?...
Director George Clooney has assembled a likable cast in a convincingly reverent view of the importance of art and culture in society. The movie plods along slowly, but I appreciated its old-fashioned story-telling, and a few of the emotional moments worked well for me. The success of the movie depends on you caring about men looking wide-eyed and speechless at masterpieces. If that sounds intriguing, The Monuments Men might be the adventure you’re looking for.
