Pompeii
A young slave of the Roman Empire (Kit Harington) has grown to adulthood, become the best fighter in the realm, and is shipped off to Pompeii, where he may become the star performer before he dies. Pompeii princess (Emily Browning), who has thwarted the advances of the visiting senator (Kiefer Sutherland), has fallen for the young fighter, but they must hide their forbidden love, even in the face of an impending eruption from a volcano. Do you know history? Things don’t go well for Pompeii.
ClearPlay In Action!
This is a movie about violence and destruction, and even though ClearPlay edits bloody imagery, there is more than enough fighting and volcano mayhem to go around. ClearPlay also cuts a small handful of mild profanity and lewd references. Audiences who can tolerate lots of death and cataclysm should be fine.
Will Pompeii make me blow my stack or flip my lid?...
Pompeii is not a memorable movie, but my extremely low expectations helped me have a better-than-expected time watching it. There were some moments that made me smile and some that made me say, “Wow, would you look at that.” You might find it lacking in these categories: character development, acting, story depth. Here’s what it does well: spectacle, production design, special effects, and, well, uh… In the end, I liked it all right; my kids hated it.
