Navy Seals embark on a special op into Afghanistan, an op that is compromised when they stumble upon some local … farmers? Sheepherders? Taliban members? They can’t be certain if these people – one a young boy – are innocents or the enemy, and have to figure out their next course of action. Not long after this moral dilemma, they find they are wildly outnumbered by the enemy and have lost communication with the base. One of the Seals is Mark Wahlberg, and the movie is called Lone Survivor, so you can do the math or decide if the title is simply ironic or a metaphor.

    ClearPlay In Action!

Profanity and violence are abundant in Lone Survivor. ClearPlay cuts the offending words and blood, as well as some violent sound effects, but there is still death in the air. Even ClearPlayed, Lone Survivor is for audiences accustomed to violent shows.

In Lone Survivor, will Marky Mark get away from the funky bunch?...

There is a great montage at the beginning of Lone Survivor about what it takes to be a Navy Seal. Unfortunately, this is also the shortcoming of the movie, because part of the Seal training has to do with putting your identity second and the team first. Although Lone Survivor has strong action scenes, most of the Seals in the film are interchangeable. Some characters are more fully developed halfway through, but by then we’re just mad there are so many bad guys. But stick with it, because there are still plenty of emotional payoffs.
