Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Sometimes I feel like Marvel owns the universe and I’m just paying rent. Theubiquitous comics have invaded television, and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (forStrategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division) picks up whereThe Avengers left off. The “Battle of New York” (the climax of Avengers) has madesuperheroes and villains public knowledge, so the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. exist to monitorstrange goings-on that might affect the balance of power. In the pilot episode, they find aman exhibiting super strength, and want to get to him before the enemy does.

ClearPlay In Action!

Like the Agents themselves, ClearPlay stands watch, making sure the seriesis family-friendly and occasionally editing mild profanities, innuendo, and graphic ordisturbing images from the comic-book violence. There’s something here for the wholefamily.

Will S.H.I.E.L.D. protect me from bad TV?...

Interestingly, the Agents use mad skills and not superpowers to combat theenemies of the American Way. And they do it with a cleverness and wit that keeps theseries moving. There are some confusing moments in the pilot, but most agree that theseries reaches full speed about halfway through the first season. A whole lot of fun.
