Maleficent
Maleficent, a powerful fairy, is the victim of a horrible betrayal. Burning with anger, she exacts her revenge by cursing the king’s daughter, Aurora, to fall into a neverending sleep when she pricks her finger on a spindle on her sixteenth birthday. Every protection is marshalled to keep Aurora from falling victim to the curse, but the best protection of all may be the one who cursed her.

Maleficent has a handful of violent and disturbing images to trim, but overall is very clean movie. Some of the images and situations would be scary for very young viewers, so parental caution is advised.
Will Maleficent Cast a Spell on Me?...
This is a wonderful retelling of the Sleeping Beauty tale that puts Maleficent and her backstoryfront and center. Angelina Jolie is excellent as Maleficent, and the cinematography is some of the best that I’ve seen in a long while. Unlike the animated classic Sleeping Beauty that sets me to snoring, the emotional and physical drama of Maleficent keep things interesting throughout. Add to this a wonderful spin on “true love’s kiss,” and you have a winner. There are parts of the film that are too intense for very young children, so plug them in to the old animated version--especially if you need to cast a spell of sleep upon them. My kids loved it.
