Dolphin Tale 2
Dolphin Tale 2 is about the opposite of what Hollywood would call “high concept.” Nothing big happens at the Clearwater Marine Hospital, but lots of little stuff keeps going on: a rescued sea turtle, a dolphin emergency, a belligerent pelican, a college invitation. Morgan Freeman shows up to help Harry Connick Jr. and Ashley Judd a little, but the kids (Nathan Gamble and Cozi Zuehlsdorff) are the main characters as they alternately fret and get excited about the hospital’s troubles.
ClearPlay In Action!
Not much is cut in the ClearPlayed version – a religious exclamation or two, maybe some images– because Dolphin Tale 2 was made with families in mind. It was rated PG, perhaps for some intense scenes, and it tends toward sentimentality, but most young kids should get a kick out of the animal adventures.
“Is this Dolphin Tale tall enough?...”
Much of Dolphin Tale 2 feels like slice-of-life behavior, like this is what it would be like to really be at the animal hospital – so much so that I wondered why it wasn’t just a documentary instead of a feature film. In fact, the closing montage made up of documentary footage was one of my favorite parts of the movie. The acting isn’t spectacular, but there are a couple of very moving scenes, and the movie certainly has its heart in the right place.?
