Lucy
Lucy reluctantly does a favor for a shady friend and winds up in the clutches of a drug dealer pushing a new product. When she is forced to be a drug mule, the product placed inside her belly leaks into her system with astonishing results. Her brain capacity expands, granting her heightened intelligence and growing control over the physical world. But as the mysteries of the universe unfold to her mind, she must deal with more mundane and dangerous matters: the angry drug lord and his thugs who want their product back.
ClearPlay In Action!
While there isn’t a lot of swearing for ClearPlay to clean up, there is a lot of violence, disturbing images, and blood. With filters, most of the fights and surgical implantation and extraction of the drugs are skipped over or choppy, leaving some gaps. Some sensual scenes are cut, including some of animals mating. If you can live with the skips, the movie is still more appropriate for adults.
Will Lucy Unlock My Brain?...
For all its focus on the brain, Lucy isn’t necessarily and intelligent thriller. It aims to be a blend of trippy, philosophical, and action packed and just comes off feeling a bit pretentious. It doesn’t help that as Lucy’s intelligence grows, she becomes more emotionless and wooden, and since we know virtually nothing about her life, it’s hard to care about what she’s going through. There are some neat effects to be had, but if you want to watch Scarlett Johansson beat people up, I would recommend Captain America: Winter Soldier or The Avengers over this film.
