The Boy next door
High school teacher Claire Peterson (Jennifer Lopez) tries to bring up her son while dealing with an estranged cheating husband. Then, a hunky 20-year-old high school student (Ryan Guzman) moves in next door. Claire appreciates the charismatic boy’s help around the house, and succumbs to having a one-night stand with him. She tries to break it off, but the student goes crazy, putting everyone around them in danger.
ClearPlay In Action!
There is a prolonged scene of implied intercourse cut by ClearPlay, along with a shorter one of implied oral sex. Another scene of intended rape is cut, and several instances of nudity. Some bloody violence is trimmed, along with about 50 profanities. Because of the thematic nature of the movie, even ClearPlayed this one is for adults.
What becomes of ‘Jenny on the Block’?...
The Boy Next Door reveals many kinks in the J-Lo armor. Her acting isn’t strong, but the story is so inane, it strains credibility almost immediately. Oh, they give the boy next door a backstory, but when it makes Norman Bates look like a boy scout, I think you’ve gone too far. Silly, far-fetched action that devolves into more silliness, just because the script says it must. But 1/2 star because parts may appeal to Jennifer Lopez fans.
