Jupiter Ascending
Ordinary earthling Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) yearns to look at the stars, but has to spend most of her time cleaning toilets. Living a life so mundane, Jupiter is surprised when her life is suddenly threatened by aliens, and even more surprised when her life is saved by a magical, handsome space warrior Caine Wise (Channing Tatum). The warrior tells Jupiter that her destiny is essential for the future of the universe, and that she owns Planet Earth. Then things start getting confusing.
ClearPlay In Action!
Science fiction violence, some partial nudity, a strange orgy-like scene, and a girl in her underwear are a smattering of what ClearPlay edits here. Scary scenes may make this a tough haul for little kids. What about older ones? Neither of my teens stayed to find out, both leaving well before the halfway point. My wife, who was looking forward to this movie, watched to the end, exclaiming, “That was really bad.”
Will my interest rise as fast as Jupiter ascends?...
I found parts of this movie compelling, such as the first big chase scene between Jupiter and alien enemies. But like so many other misfires in the movie, these chases soon become repetitious and threaten to overwhelm any intimate moments that would cause us to care. When the movie isn’t bludgeoning us with amped-up visuals, it becomes ploddingly talky. Great if you like spectacle, but not much at giving us a coherent story and sympathetic characters.
