The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie: Sponge Out of Water
Based on the popular television cartoon series, The SpongeBob Movie revolves around a crazed pirate (Antonio Banderas), and the ongoing rivalry between the titular Squarepants and Plankton. When the secret recipe for Krabby Patties, the most popular food in Bikini Bottom, goes missing, SpongeBob and Plankton build a time machine to find the formula and save life as they know it. Their adventure takes them to remote locations, including dry land in a 3D-friendly foray.
ClearPlay In Action!
There is a good dose of rude humor in Sponge Out of Water that ClearPlay trims, mostly involving scatological humor. There are a couple of risqué moments that are cut, including a partial mooning. About five instances of dialogue are also removed. The anarchy that is SpongeBob will likely appeal to younger viewers and adults who are in on the joke.
Will I find The SpongeBob Movie to be absorbing?...
The frenetic pace and non-stop lunacy make Sponge Out of Water a deep-sea delight. There are so many wonderfully silly moments, it’s hard not to like at least some of the zaniness. That’s not to say it’s for everybody. Some will certainly find the humor mind-numbing. But if you’ve found yourself chuckling at the cartoon before, this amped-up version will give you a whale of a good time.
