Minions
Minions almost plays like a documentary, first tracing the history of the titlecharacters – who many audiences loved in Despicable Me – then following the main characters as they try to find a substantially evil villain to serve. Their travels take them to Great Britain, where they are tasked to steal the Queen’s throne. As usual, they botch the job, much to the anger of the evil Scarlet Overkill (voiced by Sandra Bullock).
ClearPlay In Action!
Although Minions was rated PG, there is an unusual amount of content that couldbe objectionable. For one, there is a high body count, played for laughs, which in some ways makes it creepier. ClearPlay cuts scatological humor such as flatulence, some inappropriate references, and bare minion rear-ends. Minions may be likable, but could spawn imitative behavior of recklessness without consequence.
Is this spinoff cute, or a ‘despicable’ money-grab?...
I had friends who hated Minions, but the movie has moments of comic brilliance.Though it’s hard to care too deeply for the yellow creatures, and Sandra Bullock as Overkill is over-the-top, the comic action hearkens to some pretty good slapstick and I found myself laughing more than I thought I would.
