    The Big Short

Remember when everybody in the country lost about a third to a half of their savings in 2007 and 2008, and you were never really sure why? The Big Short gives answers, following the stories of four people who predicted the housing bubble collapse, and the subsequent tragedies to follow. Featuring Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell and Brad Pitt, the movie plays like an investigative mystery, but we know the culprits from the start. It’s also a comedy, though the story shur ain’t funny.

    ClearPlay In Action!

There are a couple of brief scenes of nudity and immodesty in The Big Short, which ClearPlay easily cuts. The big bugaboo is language, with about 75 F-words, and somewhere in the neighborhood of 90 other profanities, all edited. Kids won’t really get the story, and many adults may need some hand-holding, which the movie is more than happy to do in several humorous vignettes. It’s exciting stuff, if you can bear the outcome.

Is The Big Short a tall tale or long on truth?...

The Big Short is a masterful movie by Adam McKay, a director previously working in broader fare (Anchorman, Talladega Nights). The performances are great, the writing solid, and the plot compelling.

    Marty Nabhan, ClearPlay Fund Manager

Rated R for pervasive language and some sexuality/nudity; 130 mins; Directed by Adam McKay
