The Huntsman: Winter's War

In this prequel/sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, we follow the rise to power of Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) and her sister Freya (Emily Blunt). When the magic mirror goes missing, it’s up to Eric, The Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) and his dwarf companions, Nion (Nick Frost) and Gryff (Rob Brydon), to find the mirror and bring peace back to the land. You don’t have to have seen Snow White and the Huntsman before watching this movie, but it may help you appreciate it more.

This adventure film features plenty of fantasy violence, with people being stabbed, shot with arrows, hit with clubs and more during the battle sequences. There is also an extended romantic scene between two characters. No explicit nudity is shown, but there is enough skin showing that parents might want to edit that scene out if children are watching. There is also some scattered mild language.

So Will this Movie Leave You Cold?

It’s obvious that this film had a large budget. The sets, the costume and the visual effects are all very well done. However, this movie still comes off like a discount version of Lord of the Rings. The story doesn’t have much heart, despite its best efforts to try and act like it does, and the actors all seem to be phoning it in. This is an unnecessary sequel.
