Me Before You
An accident leaves the once robust Will Traynor (Sam Claflin) paralyzed and despondent. His mother hires Lou Clark (Emilia Clarke) as a caregiver and companion for Will, hoping that her upbeat chattiness might lift his spirits and instill a reason to live.
ClearPlay In Action!
The British film contains sexual innuendos, implied sex, religious exclamations, and a few mild obscenities. ClearPlay handles those with ease. However, the filters won’t eliminate Will’s desire for and discussion of assisted suicide. The controversial topic might be difficult for some viewers.
So, is it I before E or Me Before U? …
The title can imply selfishness if viewed as “my wants trump yours.” Is Will selfish for wanting to end his quadriplegic existence or are loved ones selfish for wanting him to live? But, as Lou adds brightness to his days and Will helps her embrace her own potential, the title—Me Before You—reflects “this was me before I met you,” and from that angle it’s an engaging love story.
