  • Groundhog Day

Star weatherman Phil (Bill Murray) reluctantly goes to Punxsutawney to report on the annual cheesy story of whether or not the groundhog sees its shadow when it emerges from its lair. He perfunctorily performs his assignment, and can’t wait to shake the snow off his shoes and leave the next morning. To his comedic horror, when he wakes up the next morning, it’s Groundhog Day all over again. And again. And again ...

    ClearPlay In Action!

Groundhog Day features suicide scenes that are played for humor, and a short scene of sensuality. There is also a scene in which Phil declares that he is God, or if not The God, then A God. ClearPlay trims some of the moments that could seem shocking to younger viewers. The movie is perfect for all members of the family in that it follows a man’s quest to be better – and maybe even perfect – first for the wrong reasons and then for the right ones.

If the Groundhog doesn’t see its shadow, can I look forward to two more months of good movies?...

Groundhog Day is the first real chance Murray got to play a full-fledged real character and not just some wisecracking smart aleck trying to get laughs. That and a terrific script make for one of the best movies of the ‘90s. Andie McDowell, Chris Elliott and Stephen Tobolowsky (in a scene-stealing role as “Needle nose” Ned) add their support in this Harold Ramis movie that deserves to be seen over and over and over.

Rated PG for some thematic elements ; 101 min; Directed by Harold Ramis
