    The Fairest of Them All

Think you know the whole story of Snow White, her handsome prince, wicked step mother and seven dwarfs? You don't know the half of it! In this new rendition you'll get to know the handsome prince a little better, you'll come to understand the Queen's crazy obsession and the dwarfs will take on a new dimension you'll be thrilled watch.

Rave, rave, rave, RAVE!!! I haven't neared this level of delightment with a fairy tale movie since Tangled came out. Lily Collins and...wait for it...Armie Hammer (yes that IS Prince Alcott's real name) were truly winning in their performances but of course, it's Julia Roberts that makes the whole film so magical. This woman has been charming us since the late '80's in Steel Magnolias!! Now she plays this aging Queen with grace and adorability and still doesn't look a day over 30. The film was fun, humorous, unpredictable and for once, Snow White takes care of herself AND accepts help from others! I don't want to say too much about the movie cause it was fun to go into it not knowing what to expect, just go see it! I WILL challenge you with this: Can you spot the moment in one of Julia's scenes where she seems to loose character and gives over to giggles?

AND, I will here stand by Lily Collins in defense of her Burt-esque eyebrows. They're beautiful and I for one have had enough of pencil thin plucked brows. Let us thick browed people embrace a possible new trend and give our tweezers a bow and a thank you for their service and then use them a little less!

Motherly Advice: This PG rated movie is rated thus I think due to one or two blasphemous exclamations, some sword fighting, brief view of Julia's navel, some longer views of Hammer's shirtless self and a kind of scary beast. The blasphemous exclamations were the only diversions for me personally. Roberts' navel was unnecessary but very non-sexual (she's primping herself for the ball so is seen wrapped in two separate towels on her spa table) and the only thing you might be uncomfortable with in Hammer's shirtless state is Robert's distraction with it. At one point she mixes up her words and begins describing him on accident saying something was "hairy and smooth". Her distraction isn't largely noticeable and most kids wont even recognize it. The scene with her and the prince in the bedroom after she's drugged him with puppy love is mostly innocent. They ARE in her bedroom and on her bed but it's not a sexual scene. He acts like a puppy the whole time and while he does tackle her to lick her face and neck twice it's very comedic and innocent and I wasn't at all uncomfortable with my 8 year old daughter next to me. We see two kisses between our Prince and Snow White and they were both very tasteful and quite sweet. I think you'll be happy to take your kids of all ages to this one! Although the real little ones might not be entertained.

Family Movie Night Activity: Mirror Mirror

“The kingdom was a happy place where everyone dance and sang, day and night… apparently no one had a job back then.”

If you think you know the story of Snow White, Mirror Mirror has a few surprises in store for you. Join The Queen (Julia Roberts) as she tells you the story about irritating Snow White, the handsome price and the giant dwarfs. Gather your family around for this silly adventure, and find out who this story really belongs to… The Queen or Snow White. See the Film Father and Movie Mom reviews to help decide if this movie is right for your family.

    Movie Snacks

*The Queen doesn’t care that it is Snow White's birthday, but some of the servants in the castle do. They make her a little, surprise birthday cake to celebrate. Bake up some cupcakes and decorate them like Snow White’s birthday cake, or just use icing to write “Happy Birthday Snow” and celebrate along with them.
*When The Queen is told that the village people are starving she says, “Tell them that bread is the new meat.” Pick your favorite meat dish and see how you could prepare it with bread instead. You could serve hot dog buns with a rolled up slice of bread instead of a hot dog or make lasagna with bread (or croutons) instead of hamburger. If you don’t think your family would appreciate the joke, serve bread, butter and jam, or a bread buffet.
*Serve a meal that associates with some of the different scenes with the dwarfs. Have Now-You-See-Them-Strawberries, Please-Pass-The-Potatoes, and I‘d-Rather-Have-The-Princess-Pancakes. Be sure to have accordion straws to drink out of as well.
*Speaking of drinks, have juice for everyone and call it “The Nectar of her Skin” to poke fun at what the Prince said when he was in Puppy Love with The Queen.

    Must Pause Moments

*When The Queen calls for her “Special Treatment” give your family some pampering as well. Let them soak their feet in warm water for a pedicure, paint their nails or give them a shoulder rub while they're watching the rest of the show. They will enjoy that much more than having bugs crawling on them and bees stinging their lips.
*Prince Alcott is struck with a case of Puppy Love. When he starts acting like a Puppy, have your family join in. See who can do the best puppy act by having them whine, bark, sit, and roll over.
*Get some of the strawberries from dinner and mash a few of them up or get out the strawberry jam. When the dwarfs help Snow White get ready for her first kiss, let each person in your family spread some on their lips too. Pucker up and get a picture of all those extra sweet faces.

    Other Activities

*The Queen’s Court plays a sort of Human Chess/Battleship game. Play a game of Human Chess or Battleship if you’ve got enough people, or create your own over sized game of Twister or other board game.
*The Queen’s reflection goes after the dwarfs with some creepy puppets. Make some puppets of your own, by using socks or paper bags, or make a marionette like the one in the movie. Put on a puppet show with your family but please do not attack any small villages with your newly created puppets.
*At the end of the movie, The Queen’s reflection, her world and her mirror break into a million pieces. Create a mosaic work of art out of lots of tiny pieces of paper to make it look like all that broken glass.
